Our school community came together to support the Leukaemia Foundation's 'World's Greatest Shave' on Friday 22 March. This annual fundraiser aids research into a cure for blood cancers, including the diseases of leukaemia, lymphomas and myeloma. Our school has participated in every World's Greatest Shave since it began in 2000, making this our 25th year, and we have raised close to $120,000 over this period. A wonderful long term contribution.
Currently we have raised $11,500, surpassing our $10,000 target. We are on target to go close to $13,000 and it's not too late for you to
donate.
Students can also donate through Care Groups or the donation box in the school Administration Office. This is another fantastic effort from all those who participated, our whole school and Whitsunday community who supported our participants and the Leukaemia Foundation.
This year all of our students were first timers taking part and did a wonderful job. Nathan Richards is currently our top student fundraiser with $1261, followed by Max Campbell $1078, Wes McNicol $1009, Noah Barrett $679, Hurley Diessel $200, Alex Watts $140, Braden Dawson $138 and Remi Diessel $130. Mrs Brayford raised an impressive $2033 in her first attempt, while regular teacher participants Miss Thomson ($726) and Mr Cox ($2375) completed the Proserpine State High School team.
Max, Wes, Alex and Mrs Brayford all donated their ponytail for wigs for sufferers who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Many more students donated to have their hair coloured by our Student Council Representatives as part of 'Funky Hair Frida. Additionally, the sausage sizzle and soft drink stall was popular.
Our students' enthusiasm and dedication was led by our Head of Health and Physical Education Mr Andrew Cox, and we thank him for making this year the success that it was for the Leukemia Foundation. Congratulations to all involved for their incredible commitment to making a difference. We are proud of you all.
