At Proserpine State High School we endeavour to cater for the learning of all students by offering a diverse curriculum. In years 8 to 10 a compulsory core of subjects is maintained to ensure all students gain the basics in English, maths, science, history, health and physical education and Japanese (compulsory to yr8) in line with the Australian National Curriculum. A wide range of elective subjects in art, business, health and physical education, home economics, humanities, information communication technology, Japanese, manual arts and marine education, allows students to match a course of study to their future career pathway. To extend choice beyond the school’s physical boundaries, we provide distance education and virtual schooling options and have developed links with the local TAFE college. To broaden and deepen learning, many subjects incorporate field experiences. Through regular in-service of teachers, extensive planning and regular revision, courses of study remain up-to-date with state and national curricula, and relevant for 21st century learning.
Globally, there is compelling need to develop transferable learning-how-to-learn capabilities in students, which are relevant and applicable to our digital, interconnected world and to ever-changing, new and challenging contexts. Our teachers design learning activities that support students to develop essential capabilities. These capabilities will be prized in the 21st century economy and a successful individual needs to develop and cultivate these essential life skills. Proserpine State High School delivers a portfolio of professional development, curricula, tools and resources designed to advance 21st century teaching, learning and digital inclusion that improve learning outcomes for every student.
