Our school hosted our 26th annual Leukaemia Foundation “World’s Greatest Shave” event on Friday 14th March. This is a fundraiser to aid research into a cure for blood cancers, including the diseases of leukaemia, lymphomas and myeloma.

Proserpine State High School is one of very few schools to have participated in every World’s Greatest Shave event since 2000. This year our fundraising efforts have accumulated to $11,767, which takes us over our $10,000 target. This is a fantastic effort from all those who participated as well as our school and greater Whitsunday community who have all supported our participants and the Leukaemia Foundation. Students have raised approximately $4,000 through donations in Care Group, donation boxes in our Canteen, our sausage sizzles and the recycling of drink containers.

Our students who participated by raising money and shaving or cutting their hair have excelled yet again. Our Year 12 students led the way with five Year 12s losing their locks this year. Callum Henry ($1,431), Blake Lovelock ($1,285), Archer Philipson ($721), Zac Gould ($206) and Breeanna Jorgensen ($100) have done a great job with their fundraising.

Our Year 11 student Tyler Hicks ($1,363) is already loving his short hair after shaving his flowing mane, while Eli Wallis ($823) has had his hair cut back to his natural brown roots. Braden Dawson ($110) has shaved his head for the second year in a row, while Lani Scarborough (Year 7) raised $112. From our staff, teacher Miss Kate Thomson raised $937 with her colourful hair, while Mr Adam Philipson ($491) shaved his head of hair and Mrs Jacqui Smith raised $105. Mr Cox is happily bald again, shaving for the 18th year in a row. Many more students donated to have their hair coloured by our Student Council representatives as part of Funky Hair Friday. Our Student Council hair dressing team did a fantastic job on the day keeping up with all their clients before serving up sausages and cold drinks. A huge thanks and congratulations to them!

Thank you to all of our families and businesses who donated. It’s not too late to donate if you haven’t had the chance yet. Students can still donate through Care Groups or the donation boxes at our Administration Office or Canteen. You can also click the following link and donate on the World's Greatest Shave fundraising page.

We are so proud of all who have participated and given back to this worthy cause. It is part of the fabric of Proserpine State High School to pay it forward or give back when you can. You are role models for our society!
